The Show

I set Malea down to take a picture and Kaidrei came to sit right next to her and give her a hug. It looked like they were waiting for a show...and what show was that you might ask...the big reveal of Daddy's Halloween costume!

For those who don't recognize it, he is an Aquabat (which is a band). Here is a picture to compare - the color of the shirts change occasionally but you get the basic idea.

I have to admit I'm pretty proud of it. I made used freezer paper to stencil the shirt and belt and sewed the skull cap, goggles, and belt.

It was a fun undertaking and I sure hope that people recognize it at his work party tomorrow. Last year they didn't even get that he was dressed up when he went as Captain Hammer (from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog). This year he got the award for the most realistic costume! He didn't get the grand prize (which was a $25 gift card), but I don't feel too bad since Mark won and his wife (a retired broadway costumer) made his Mad Hatter costume - and it was truly amazing!

Chilly Toes

Today Kaidrei and Brian were cuddling on the couch when Brian commented on how cold Kaidrei's toes were. I had to laugh when I came in the room to see this:

A closer look:

She decided to share Daddy's slippers. I guess we'll have to get her some of her own since sharing slippers isn't the easiest thing to do.

Halloween Decor

I've been trying to make decorations for our front door for the different holidays this year and sadly have only successfully made one for Easter, well and now Halloween.
I got the idea from this blog. She used coasters and ribbon to make hers and I didn't have either of those, but was determined to make it without spending anything.

I ended up cutting some thin wood leftover from another project and painting it. I actually free handed the faces (which I never do because I'm a perfectionist) and it took a lot for me to do that. I used some bamboo skewers for the spider legs, because I couldn't find any dead twigs. When it came time to glue it all together I realized I didn't have any black ribbon so I used some black flannel with interfacing between it and a D-ring for the hook.

I'm really happy about how it turned out and the best part is that it didn't cost anything.

Ipad Sillies

A couple of weeks ago Brian got an Ipad from/for work. On Sunday Kaidrei was having a major meltdown and I used it to distract her from the woes of toddlerdom. She enjoyed a firework app, but I think she enjoyed playing with the camera just as much.

Our crazy photobooth fun!

In all honestly I think her favorite was watching videos on youtube. She would pick the next video from the list of similar videos that comes on the side and push the play button! She is such a smarty!

My Laundry Helper

I just found this sitting in the drafts on the blog and decided instead of deleting it I'd publish it.

This is from a few months ago, but I was doing laundry and Kaidrei was determined to get dressed. She ended up with my shirt on her head and was trying to wear Brian's shorts. She eventually got the shorts on, but had both legs in one hole.

All By Myself

I can get dressed all by myself...

with socks on my hands, one pair of tights on each leg, and a diaper cover to hold it all up over my pants!

I'm such a good sister, I can help Malea get dressed too.

She is too wiggly so I'll just tickle her instead.

Christmas Dresses

Grandma and Grandpa Nyman sent Malea and Kaidrei some gorgeous Christmas dresses. Yes, we realize it is only October, but they wanted to make sure the girls got as much use out of them as possible since they are both growing so quickly. Too quickly in fact...when Grandma asked what sizes to get I thought I was shooting big when I said 3T and 12 months since Kaidrei is 2 and Malea is barely 10 months. She got those sizes and sent them out. We tried them on and were sorely dissapointed to find that both dresses were too small! How did that happen? So we had to venture to the store on a grand scavenger hunt to find a 4T and 18 month size. Luckily I was able to find both sizes (it was the last 18 month size and it was hidden in the very back.) Kaidrei was so excited to wear it and kept spinning in circles and got even more boisterous when she saw that Malea was wearing the same dress.

I tried to get a picture before we left for church on Sunday, but Kaidrei was ready to go.

After church I tried to get some pictures of Malea (Kaidrei was napping). She didn't agree with pictures at all! Most of the time she was screaming at us with accusing looks as to how we could set her down and move 3 feet away from her! Then Brian stepped in and got some great smiles from her!

Thanks for the beautiful dresses!

(Grandma, you can click on the pictures to see them bigger - I was testing out something new so they are smaller on this page for now)

Scooter

Malea was sitting by the couch as I was in the kitchen scrubbing some potatoes for dinner. As I was walking away she was reaching for the pail which was sitting on the coffee table. After a couple minutes Malea got really mad! When I came back to see what was wrong, I found her sitting under the table with the pail!
I'm assuming she scooted over on her bum, pulled the pail off the table which must have rolled under the table, then scooted while reaching for the pail, and ended up under the table. The poor girl was really frustrated as she kept trying to sit up and ended up bonking her head.

I felt bad for her, but I couldn't help but laugh. At least the picture was just taken with my cell phone and I didn't leave her there long enough to go get the camera!
