Happy 4th of July

Our 4th of July was a great day! It started out rather lazy with the girls sleeping in until 8:30! Granted they only slept in because they were up several times through the night, but still sleeping in...ah the joy! We decided to have a nice brunch with pancakes, eggs, sausage, hash browns, and fresh peaches. It was delicious.

The day was actually overcast so we decided instead of letting Kaidrei out to play in the water that we'd take a bike ride, so we loaded the kiddos up in our very well loved bike trailer that we were given when a neighbor was cleaning out their garage last year and off we went.

All Ready to go!

We made it to the park close by our house and some friends were there playing so we stopped to play with them for a few minutes. Kaidrei tried to play fetch with their black lab, but the ball was too slobbery for her to throw very far. After 5 or 10 minutes the sprinklers suddenly came on all around the park, so we made a very quick exit!

We rode to another park across town and took a break while Kaidrei took the opportunity to swing in a big kid swing. She did great balancing and was very careful to hold on tight. On the way back we stopped at the snow cone shack and got a grape and a strawberry snow cone. Kaidrei and I preferred the strawberry one, while Brian would rather have the grape and I don't think Malea cared what flavor it was as long as she got bites every few minutes.

After the snow cones we loaded up a very sticky crew and came home. In all I think we were out just over 3 hours. Brian and I were exhausted but Kaidrei was ready to go out back and play in the water as soon as we got home. What better way to get rid of stickiness than playing in the pool right?!

We eventually got both girls cleaned up and we all took a nap and relaxed.

Malea was so tired because she didn't get a morning nap since we were off riding.

When the girls got up we played around the house and hung out until that night when we did fireworks. We live in a cul-de-sac and it was the neighborhood gathering point this year to set off fireworks. There were lots of people, food, and fireworks. I really felt like I was in the Sandlot movie with all the kids running around while the fireworks were going off.

Kaidrei ran for the first firework that was set off, but I think it was mostly because other kids were getting close too. Once she was settled in her chair with a cup of popcorn she was content to watch the show. Brian isn't the biggest fan of fireworks, so the original plan was that he would keep Malea inside while I kept tabs on Kaidrei outside. Malea had other plans though! She was thoroughly discontent and mad inside, but once she was outside she was fine and I think she completely loved the fireworks. When the aerial ones were set off she would arch her back so she could see everything.

After a half an hour or so, Kaidrei and her buddy Aidan took off to his house. By the time I caught up to them, they were inside in his room, each in a bed, watching a movie. Apparently they decided the noise was too much and their ears hurt! So they played inside for a while before coming back out and when they did come out they wanted to ride bikes. Kaidrei got on Aidan's tricycle and even rode his 2 wheeler with some help from me.

Around 10 o clock I decided it was late enough for us since Kaidrei is usually in bed around 7:30. Kaidrei did not want to go inside and put up a big fight, but as soon as we were inside she went to bed without any fuss at all. She was so exhausted that all the noise from outside didn't keep her up at all.

Even being to bed that late, she was still up at 6:30 the next morning - though she was in a good mood most of the day so I can't complain too much.

It was a great day. I'm so grateful that I live in a free country and that so many are willing to serve to keep us free.
